ARFF Management

ARFF personnel are responsible for responding to aircraft accidents and emergencies at airport facilities, and undergo extensive specialized training.

In addition to its search and rescue obligations, ARFF is responsible for rescuing aircraft at risk of failing to execute maneuvers on the runway and removing aircraft wreckage after accidents.

Equipped with high-tech search and rescue and firefighting vehicles, ARFF teams are strategically positioned at five locations across the airport to respond to emergencies within minutes.

Airside Support Services Management

ARFF responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of runways and aprons; deterring birds and other animals from the soil areas around the runways; ensuring runway markings remain visible to pilots for their ground navigation; removing rubber residue from aircraft landing gear to prevent runway slipperiness; and with the use of 174 vehicles, they remove snow and apply chemical anti-freeze agents to prevent runway freezing.

Airside Safety and Compliance Management

The compliance of airside operations at iGA Istanbul Airport is verified in accordance with national and international regulations, while keeping abreast of current aviation developments to ensure operational requirements are safely met within the environment-vehicle-(air & land)-human triangle. It is responsible for ensuring that operational processes on the airside comply with the iGA Istanbul Airport handbook, instructions, and procedures. Throughout the PAT area, improvement procedures are implemented to ensure compliance with the standards for operations carried out by stakeholders, speed limits, seat belt and driver's licence checks, and by checking maintenance and construction works for permits, safety, and security. Preliminary on-site examinations of accidents and incidents occurring on the airside are conducted and documented in reports. Documented safety data is interpreted statistically. NOTAM distribution and monitoring are performed, ensuring a seamless flow of information to the teams. Compliance with national and international regulations is verified to maintain current information. New applications and developments are implemented in line with HEK, ADP, and other airport protocols.

Wildlife Management

Wildlife Management oversees the wildlife habitat to understand potential risks to flight safety and implement necessary precautions, constantly monitoring the activities of birds and other wildlife. In the event of a wild or stray animal sighting, appropriate precautions are taken, and the relevant authorities are engaged for coordinated efforts to prevent the animals from approaching the aircraft. Precautions are implemented and alerts are issued to avert aircraft collisions with birds by monitoring bird activity in the vicinity.

Airside Operations Management

The daily monitoring and administration of the PAT areas includes a coordinated execution of the activities essential for operational continuity, along with inspection and control in compliance with national and international regulations. The process includes wildlife and bird management, identification and mitigation of foreign object debris (FOD), execution of follow-me services, runway surface friction assessments, supervision and enforcement of regulations outlined in the Airport Security Plan (HEK), as well as issuance of permanent access cards, vehicle license plates, and driver's licenses. Operations also include verifying license plates and airside driver's licenses of vehicles entering and exiting through Apron entry gates (A and D).

Terminal Operasyon

APOC & The Directorate of Terminal Operations

The iGA Istanbul Airport Operations Center (APOC) is a control center where multiple internal (and potentially external) organizations collaborate to comprehensively enhance airport operations. Situated at the core of Istanbul Airport, this department processes and monitors data from various sources, generating information that accurately represents the airport's conditions.

Under normal circumstances, the Istanbul Airport Operations Center (APOC) functions as a central coordination hub for airport operations during irregular operations and operational emergencies. Furthermore, it ensures the proper and efficient use of resources by planning and allocating aviation resources in collaboration with the airport planning team.

The Istanbul Airport Operations Center (APOC) conducts integrated operation management activities, enabling employees and stakeholders to perform their duties accurately through the effective use of technological tools and solutions. At the center, where the airport's operational management decisions are made, monitoring, control, coordination, reporting, and analysis are performed to the highest standards.
