Unaccompanied Passengers

Child passengers who have reached their 2nd birthday, but not their 12th birthday on the start date of travel, can fly with their parents or an adult companion aged 18 years or older. Even though child passengers travel at a discounted rate, they are entitled to the same baggage allowance as adult passengers. On international flights, you can request a special meal for your child, which must be reserved at least 24-hours before departure.

 

Unaccompanied Minors

 

Passengers over the age of 2, but who have not yet reached their 12th birthday, may travel with a parent/guardian, or as an unaccompanied minor. However, unaccompanied minor passengers over the age of 2, but who have not yet reached their 7th birthday, must be under the supervision of one of our cabin crew members.

 

Traveling Without a Guardian

 

Children over the age of 7, but who have not yet reached their 12th birthday, are permitted to travel as an unaccompanied minor, without their parent/guardian. The procedure for unaccompanied minors is as follows:

 

• Please ensure that children traveling without a guardian arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before their flight. At the airport, unaccompanied minors are given priority when traveling. Istanbul Airport has a dedicated counter for unaccompanied minors.
• During the check-in process, the member of staff responsible will ask you to sign the necessary documentation and will inform you about the procedure.
• Once check-in and other official processes have been completed, unaccompanied minors are escorted on to the aircraft by a member of staff. Please do not leave the airport until your child’s flight has departed.
• Unaccompanied minors are allocated seats closest to the senior cabin steward.
• Upon arrival, the cabin crew will transfer the child passenger to the staff at the airport. Once customs and baggage procedures have been completed, our staff will transfer your child to the guardian designated by you, who will be required to sign a note of confirmation.
